On a Tesla, normal video players stop when the car moves. tescast is a web app at tescast.app that plays YouTube and live TV in the Tesla browser and keeps playing when the car moves from Park to Drive. This is meant for passengers. The driver must keep their eyes on the road.
Why does video stop in a Tesla?
Tesla's own Theater apps and normal video players in the browser stop when the car starts moving. We did not find an official Tesla page that states the exact rule, so we do not state which gear or software version applies. Community sources, such as the Tesla Motors Club forum, say the block exists.
Other services say the same about themselves. Sefirox, a competitor, writes on its own page: "Tesla blocks video on the center screen once the car is moving, and Sefirox respects that" (sefirox.com/watch-youtube-on-tesla, October 2026). Sefirox's own blog also answers the question "Can you watch YouTube on a Tesla while driving?" with no. TeslaPlay's terms say to watch content only while parked.
tescast takes a different approach. Live TV and YouTube in tescast do not stop when the car moves from Park to Drive. Passengers keep watching.

For passengers, not for the driver
The playback while driving exists for people in the car who are not driving. A child in the back can watch videos on a long trip. A passenger in the front can open a video.
The driver must keep their eyes on the road. Local laws apply. If you drive alone, do not watch.
